Who
supports Transparency International (TI)?
Much of the strength of TI,
at the international and national levels, stems from the commitment of a
large number of people and organisations who volunteer their time,
expertise and in-kind support. TI receives funding from foundations,
government corporations and individuals. Full details of the
organisation's budget are published in the Annual Report.
How you can support TI
Everyone can make an impact on curbing
corruption by:
1. Becoming actively involved.
Membership to TI is open to all individuals and organisations of
integrity. You can become a member of the Philippine Chapter or help to
establish one where none yet exists.
2. Contributing your time.
TI counts on a network of volunteers all over the world,
contributing their time, energy and dedication to our cause. Volunteers
work closely with their National Chapters or directly with the
International Secretariat.
3. Making a donation.
Some people may not be able to become directly involved but still want
to support our organisation. TI and its National Chapters increasingly
rely on private donations to cover their budgets.
4. Accessing our web site regularly.
The TI site gives you a regular update on the latest developments
in anti-corruption initiatives. It describes national and international
trends, reports on the programmes of National Chapters and lists
conferences and new publications on corruption.

About
TI-PH
Transparency
International - Philippine Chapter
TI-Philippines is one of the seventy (70) national chapters of
Transparency International. It was established on August 26, 1995, and
registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission with No. ANO
95-03229.
TI-Philippines' Vision: A Philippine
society that is free of corruption, with the establishment of a National
Integrity System that curbs corruption by increasing the level of public
awareness on the menace of corruption:
•
Corruption breeds and perpetuates poverty, as it robs the people
of basic social services.
•
Corruption undermines peace, order and stability of the
government, as it downgrades the confidence and trust of the people in
democracy and the government; and furthers the gap between the
impoverished poor and the rich.
Our mission: To facilitate the
establishment and strengthening of multi-stakeholder coalitions for good
governance and corruption reform; bringing together government, civil
society, business and other sectors that would see to functional
National Integrity Systems [NIS].
TI-Philippines believes that the fight against corruption can best be
achieved by inculcating change and rekindling the values in the hearts
of each person that would pave the way to an eventual change in his/her
attitudes and foment the practise of honesty and integrity.
TI-Philippines offers to this and any Administration a collaboration
that could carry out the program of a graft-free Philippines.
Both Transparency International-Main and TI-Philippines believe that the
fight against corruption can be achieved through transparency.
Our
Programs, Events and Activities: TI-Philippines
organized the Regional Transparency International conference in 1995
that drew in participants from 18 countries, and speakers from
TI-Berlin, TI-United States, TI-Australia, and TI-Switzerland. This
3-day event also was the launching of TI-Philippines.
In August 1997, during the LAWASIA Conference, TI-Philippines sponsored
a one-day program on corruption. It featured speakers from the US Office
Government Ethics (OGE) and a well-known law practitioner specializing
in US Government Contracts.
A conference, "Asia-Pacific Integrity Forum" held in November
1997, highlighted by papers on corruption prevention and recovery of
hidden wealth by notable speakers from TI-Malaysia, TI-Switzerland,
TI-Australia, and OECD Consultant Dr. Peter Pieth.
TI-Philippines
conceptualized the formation of Integrity Circles [IC], Operation
Karangalan and the formulation of Integrity Pacts [IP] between the
government procurement offices and their suppliers and contractors.
TI-Philippines was a significant contributor, in terms of providing some
policy directions, to the Moral Recovery Program that was implemented
during the Ramos administration.
With funding support from The Asia Foundation, TI-Philippines
currently undertakes a program on Transparent Accountable Governance, a
three-pronged program that seeks to:
•
draw up and publish a Directory of Organizations engaged in
combating corruption;
• using the strategy of Integrity Circles,
broaden civil societys awareness of TI-Philippines;
•
linkage entities and organizations with anti-corruption program
thrusts; and
• build strategic alliances and partnership
with agencies and other organizations through information campaigns and
publication of materials and advertisements.
Corruption
and TI's Rationale
Corruption
is one of the greatest challenges of the contemporary world. It undermines
good government, fundamentally distorts public policy, leads to the
misallocation of resources, harms the private sector and private sector
development and particularly hurts the poor.
Controlling
it is only possible with the cooperation of a wide range of stakeholders in
the integrity system, including most importantly the state, civil society,
and the private sector. There is also a crucial role to be played by
international institutions.
What
makes TI different?
• TI is the only international movement
exclusively devoted to curbing corruption.
• TI is an international centre of expertise on
combating corruption, pooling a large number of highly professional
volunteers for an integrated approach.
• TI seeks to empower civil society to play a
meaningful role in countering corruption.
